As part of our ongoing commitment to medicine access and patient safety, we are excited to introduce SmartMed – our new portal designed to simplify and support the safe use of unlicensed medicines in clinical practice.
Introducing SmartMed – Built for Healthcare Professionals
Smartway are launching our own safety and risk assessment portal; SmartMed.
This powerful tool will provide quick and easy access to critical information on unlicensed medicines from Summary of Product Characteristics (SPCs) to pack shots to Certificates of Analysis (CoA’s). This will enable hospital pharmacists, technicians and clinicians to complete risk assessments with ease and allow for the safe implementation of unlicensed medicines within their practice.
With helpful additional functions such as market information regarding shortages and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) disruptions, we hope to provide more context and clarity to healthcare professionals to make better informed decisions when contemplating the necessity of unlicensed medicines for their patients. We have spent months researching and taking on board feedback from hospital colleagues on what they would like from a portal as a one-stop shop for all the necessary information to make their assessments more efficient to minimise the number of touch points between them and obtaining information.
We are confident that SmartMed encapsulates everything needed to assess unlicensed imports effectively and efficiently, with all relevant documents in one place for ease of access. The portal is designed to break down barriers, build confidence among healthcare professionals, and most importantly, help keep patients safe under our care.

SmartMed is set to launch on 9th May 2025 at the market-leading Clinical Pharmacy Congress conference being held at ExCeL London, where healthcare professionals can come by our stand (F15) and ask our colleagues for a demonstration of our brand-new portal.
